Mastering the Art of Colour & Design from Life – Todd Whisson – 2022

Date: Saturday 7th and Saturday 8th May 2022.  Times 9am to 4pm.

This workshop is designed to build on artist skills in composition and colour painting from life. Artists will learn how to analyse a subject and construct a painting using principles of design and colour theory. Artists will gain knowledge on successful ways simplifying complex subjects, and creating visual order in their work, making colour using a limited palette, understanding the behaviour of light including authentic colour for shadows. Completing this workshop will create a platform for Artists to better understand design and how to select their subject, determine what makes a great painting using unity within their work and create overall colour harmony.
Designed for all levels.  Your choice of Oil or Acrylic Paints.

Todd is a successful exhibiting Australian Impressionist Artist and has been for more than 28 years. He creates a very loose and spontaneous contemporary style to his work.

On the first morning Todd will demonstrate and take us through his colour theory exersises in detail till lunch. After lunch and the next day you will be hands on painting, using Todd’s methods of subjects that he will arrange for the class..

This workshop is designed for the artist who wants a simple systematic approach to understanding and applying colour theory to their paintings.

Artists will learn how to and practice …
• creating a colour wheel based on natures colour value system using Munsell’s theory
• analysing a subject and applying the colour theory principles
• making almost any colour simply by using a limited palette
• understanding the behaviour of light and how to determine authentic shadow colour
• learn how to further resolve your work
• group discussions analysing one of the master’s works

Completing this workshop artists at all levels will benefit from having a simple process for creating a great painting with overall colour harmony.

COVID19

To ensure the welfare and well being of all students, the workshop will be following a COVID19 Safe Plan following current government guidelines.  Please do not attend the workshop if you are feeling unwell or  experiencing any COVID symptoms (fever, a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath).

Cancellation Policy:

There is a standard  $50 administration fee that applies to any workshop cancellation.

If Todd or myself are unable to run the workshop due to illness or other extreme circumstances, we will postpone the workshop to a later date and inform you of this as early as possible
